What is the difference between a marriage and an elopement?

I learned that “eloping” usually means the couple is “running off” to get married regardless of their parent’s approval. Who is going to stand in the way between lovers? Marriage should be a union and not necessarily an arrangement. We have to ask ourselves, what can we receive but also give within a companionship?
